Katie Reilly, from Greater Manchester has been working with us since 2017 and has been going from strength to strength in terms of her rehabilitation and life goals.
Katie, eleven, has hemiplegic cerebral palsy which she has had since birth, but she certainly doesn’t let that stand in the way to achieving her Paralympian goals!
When we began working with Katie and her family, we set up a rehabilitation package that included regular physiotherapy sessions as well as occupational therapy treatment.
Katie has always been a keen horse rider and as such we helped support her introduction to Riding for the Disabled Association, who use horses and ponies to provide therapy to people of all abilities in a fun way.
It was after an inspirational session with a horse-riding Paralympian that Katie set herself the goal of herself competing in the 2024 Paralympics. Katie’s determination and hard work within her rehabilitation demonstrates that the sky’s the limit when you put your mind to something and with the right support you can achieve just about anything.
Katie says: “From the first day I met Nicola we hit it off straight away. She has been amazing sorting everything out for me and I know mum feels like a load has been lifted off her shoulder. I know if I ever need something or have problem with anything Nicola is only a phone call away. Thank you all at AMS CM.”
Katie’s mum Karen says: “AMS CM has taken the stress and worry out of dealing with day to day running of all Katie’s needs regarding payments for physio and occupational therapist organisation, everything, even just getting in contact with doctors to get follow up appointments sorted out for me, so that I can just go and be a mum to our daughter. Having a child with disabilities can be overwhelming with all the additional needs, then to add making sure all these details are covered can really take a toll and time away from doing what I was meant to be doing from the start which is spending time together as a family. I don’t know what we would have done without all the support we received from Nicola and all the team at AMS CM. Thank you all so much for everything.”
We are so proud of Katie’s achievement and successes – she even appeared on Blue Peter and Countryfile promoting her riding abilities.
We look forward to working with Katie in the future and supporting her to realise her dreams of being a Paralympian.
